KPL Weekly Poetry Round 12

For almost two years now, I have been writing a weekly sports poetry column, mainly on football, for Kenyanstar (Pitch Poet) We are the first and certainly the only people doing that in Kenya if not Africa, although we haven’t been consistent for logistical reasons. Besides that, I have been toying with another idea of doing poetic Kenyan Premier League match reports but since I can’t watch all the matches, I will be writing a brief weekly compilation of all matches played, starting this week. I know the league is almost half-way but it’s never too late to start. There are 18 rounds of matches to go. Here is last week’s round up to start us off:

Leopards finally made a kill
Luc Eymael tasted his first win
Okwemba’s strike made it one nil
Shooting Ulinzi has become their routine

Champions Tusker lost to Chemelil
This was their second loss in a row
Brewers’ staggering form is terrible
Maybe it’s time for Matano to go

Gor Mahia settled for a draw
Captain Jerry keeping another clean sheet
A point each for City Stars and Gor
They need goals to keep them on their feet

Ugandan David Nyanzi scored a brace
As Sony Sugar shocked Western Stima
That win keeps them in the race
To avoid possible relegation trauma

Jacob Keli is still the top scorer
He pulled KCB level with Homeboyz
As Sofapaka hit Muhoroni Youth at home
And Thika United drew with Slum Boys

Karuturi plucked Bandari
Goal by Andrew Murunga
But he then got a red card
And will miss the next match
