Pitch Poet: Glory Glory Gor Mahia

A great army of green shirts sings out

“Gooor, Gor Mahia!

K’Ogalo, Goor timbe duto yuakni!”

Glory Glory Gor Mahia

For the second season running they have done it big

Crowned champions of the Kenyan Premier League

The trophy was already sealed and safe in the bag

Even with some six silly rounds of games in hand

Coming in a rich season featuring in six competitions

What a memorable campaign in the Confederations’!

Came within a whisker of the quarterfinals in the Cup

Putting Kenya back on the continental club football map

And before reclaiming the mid-season Supercup

Booking a second date with Everton at Goodison Park

The champions entertained Hull, another English side

Filling the hearts of their adoring fans with pride

The towering wall of Joash and Shakava

That was the reliable impenetrable cover

The creative midfield featuring Kahata

BlackBerry and the formidable attackers

Kagere, Tuyisenge, Guikan and others

Not everything was rosy though

Unpaid, players went on a go slow

Kagere and Walusimbi were ‘sold’

Four matches were lost in a row

Went around with a begging bowl

But it appears the mighty Gor Mahia

In Kenya here they have no peers

This title is their fifth in six years

Seventeenth overall

Glory Glory Gor

And the Green Army goes marching on
